CROSS COUNTRY: CV'S DOYLE FINISHES SECOND IN CLASS C, EARNS SPOT IN STATE MEET (2023-11-02)
Broome County East Sports ReportChenango Valley's Michael Doyle turned in the best performance among Broome County East competitors at Thursday's Section 4 cross-country championships at Chenango Valley State Park.
Doyle finished second in the Class C race, crossing in 17 minutes, 13.0 seconds over the 3.1-mile course and earned a spot in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships to be held Nov. 11 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.
Lansing's Trent Thibault won the Class C race in 16:37.8.
Doyle's finish led the Warriors to a third-place finish with 86 points. Oneonta won with 25.
Dominic Scott (19:11.8), Ryan Pepples (19:47.7), Ajay Datta (19:50.7) and Jayden Jannotti (19:57.7) finished 17th, 23rd, 25th and 27th, respectively, for CV.
Chenango Forks finished fourth in Class C. The Blue Devils were led by Connor Little and Conway Mallory, who had respective eighth- and ninth-place finishes. Little finished in 18:18.7 and Mallory crossed in 18:25.7, and both qualified for the state meet.
Susquehanna Valley's Aidan Skukon placed 12th in 18:34.0.
In Class A, Binghamton was led by Auggie Guba, who finished 16th in 18:24, seven seconds better than teammate Collin Gibb, who finished 19th. Yanni Steed contributed a 33th-place showing for the Patriots, crossing in 19:57.
On the girls side, Binghamton's Eva DiNunzio-Welch had the fastest time among BCE runners. She crossed in 21:48.2 and placed 15th in Class A.
Chenango Forks' Grace Harkness earned a spot at states with a sixth-place showing in the Class C race. Harkness crossed in 22:20.6 to help the Blue Devils place third with 64 points. Afton/Harpursville/Bainbridge-Guilford won with 35.
Mari Pourby had a 12th-place finish for Forks, crossing in 23:22.9 and teammate Jaidyn Erickson-Hrehor was 15th in 23:47.3.
Windsor's Cali Rooke finished 22nd in 24:43.1, one spot in front of Susquehanna Valley's Kiley Kaczynski, who crossed in 24:46.4.
